Ziggy’s Arts
Adventure is a live-action educational series for
children ages 7 to 12 from Louisiana Public Broadcasting. The series teaches
young learners core arts concepts through the magic of storytelling and puppets.
Ziggy is a 9-year-old
alien from a planet where everyone has an emoticle – an antenna that lights up on
top of their head. It’s how those on his planet understand and feel each other’s
emotions. But Ziggy’s emoticle doesn’t work the same way, making him different
from the others and lonely. When a spacecraft carrying recordings from Earth crashes
on his planet, Ziggy gets to hear music for the first time which makes his
emoticle light up! Finally, Ziggy is able to share feelings with others, even
humans millions of miles away.
Determined to experience more
Earth art, he builds a rocket ship in his backyard. On launch day, his family
packs him a snack, and soon he is safe on Earth in a Louisiana junkyard where he’s
taken in by friendly musicians. Together, this unlikely group meets all kinds
of creatives from Louisiana and beyond, learning about art, community and
friendship along the way.
Louisiana Public
Broadcasting invites children, parents, and educators to explore the world of
art and Louisiana culture with Ziggy’s Arts Adventure. The power
of the arts and storytelling activate neural pathways and engage young minds to
make learning fun!
The series is designed to
build critical and creative thinking skills while reinforcing the development
of soft skills like communication, collaboration, organization, and problem
solving. Young viewers will see emotionally and socially intelligent behaviors
modeled by the characters, providing quality examples they can use in their
daily lives.
LPB is working closely with educators and
agencies to develop this digital series. Ziggy’s Arts Adventure content
supports deeper understanding of National Core Arts Standards, in
addition to Louisiana Arts and Academic Standards as outlined by the Louisiana
Department of Education and Louisiana Division of the Arts. To
promote higher order thinking through viewership, the series was developed
using proven thinking strategies developed by Harvard University’s Project
Zero.
Ziggy’s Arts
Adventure is a
Louisiana-based production, shot and produced in Baton Rouge at the LPB studios
and remote locations.
Ziggy’s Arts Adventure, Season 1, was generously
underwritten by Louisiana Healthcare Connections, with additional support from
